Meet Dr. Roybal, True Life Center’s Founder<\/h2>\n

\"mentalRecognized as a leading authority in integrative mental health care and addiction medicine, Dr. Krista Roybal has the expertise to uncover the root cause of illness as well as alleviate distress and suffering. Moreover, she has a gift for making patients feel truly seen and understood.<\/p>\n

Dr. Roybal has devoted herself to exclusively seeing patients in True Life’s Intensive Outpatient Program, where her strength-based and compassionate approach makes her particularly adept at treating complex cases of anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and bipolar disorder. Dr. Roybal is also a national expert on benzodiazepine tapers and medical detox; she is astute with psychopharmacological evaluations and medication management and makes it her goal to find the root cause of suffering and use medications as judiciously and minimally as needed to provide alleviation of psychological and physical distress. Dr. Roybal has cared for thousands of patients over the course of her career and has created and dedicated her professional focus to the unique treatment model that True Life offers because of the remarkable outcomes she and the team have witnessed over the years.\u00a0 She is continually working to refine and accelerate the mind-body approach that is True Life Center<\/a>:\u00a0 neurobiological integration.<\/p>\n

Training and Education<\/h3>\n

After attending medical school at New York Medical College and initial training at UC San Francisco in Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Roybal noticed a recurring theme among her patients: undiagnosed mental health issues manifesting in the body as physical symptoms.<\/p>\n

To devote more time to patients’ mental well-being and gain a more in-depth understanding of the mind-body connection, Dr. Roybal specialized in psychiatry at the University of New Mexico, where the region’s well-documented addiction and mental health issues attract top addiction psychiatrists. Training under these experts inspired Dr. Roybal’s own passion for addiction medicine as well as her belief that “compassion is the antidote” for this condition. What was so unique about her training is that in addition to learning from some of the nation’s top pharmacologists in psychiatry, she also had the unmatched experience of being mentored by numerous therapists who specialized in attachment theory.\u00a0 This set the stage for her always to be attuning to the mind and body, the parasympathetic as well as the sympathetic, and focusing on how trauma manifests in the body.<\/p>\n

While working at top hospitals such as Scripps La Jolla, where she served as Co-Medical Director of the Scripps Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program, Dr. Roybal became passionate about creating a more innovative approach to mental health treatment. Combining the warmth and individual attention found in concierge practices, the collaborative environment and neuroscientific focus of medical facilities, and her belief in the integrative model for healing the somatic components of mental health and addiction, Dr. Roybal founded True Life Center in 2014.<\/p>\n
